House in Boxmoor

The brief for this house was to reconfigure the jumbled internal layout to create a bright and airy ground floor that the owners could grow into as a family. The original layout, as well as being impractical with awkward rooms, lacked connection to the garden. A ground floor extension, full internal reconfiguration and garden design worked in unison to create a home filled with light, greenery and distinctive spaces.

A ground floor extension and internal rethink for a growing family with an emphasis on the garden.

A space for socialising with family and friends and quiet time for reflection.

For the kitchen and dining space, it was essential that the open and social space allowed for family gatherings whilst still remaining cosy. The extension included a utility room off the kitchen and a snug space adjoining the dining room. The bespoke coloured bookcase and window seat made the snug a focal point in the room and provided a quiet, distinct place to relax and read a book surrounded by the greenery of the garden.

The original house had potential and just needed a fresh pair of eyes and a new perspective.

Originally the layout had a small, square central kitchen where the dining space is now located and a downstairs WC where the kitchen is now located. This blocked off light and connections with the garden. The odd arrangement meant a large part of ground floor wasn’t used. A complete reconfiguration has created light, open spaces that flow into one another and can be adapted to suit the changing needs of a family.
